Course Description

Since the pandemic, every busy season has been challenging, but in truth, "Busy Season" has been challenging for the past 30 years and it is becoming more challenging every year. However, for one CPA, tax seasons have become more productive and profitable with the anticipation that next year will be the best ever. That CPA is a user of Once Accounting, an accounting workflow built by a CPA for CPAs that fixes the many faults that frustrate CPAs with other accounting workflows.

Once Accounting takes accounting data and focuses on the CPA or CPA firm, not on one individual business. Once is middle-ware that sits between your clients' accounting platform: QBO/Desktop, Xero, or Microsoft NAV, and your workflow, converting accounting data to meet CPA needs. This workflow focuses on public accounting, simplicity, and standardization in a "touch it once" approach that highlights the importance of being effective first. This approach highlights what can be done today to impact every busy season going forward.

This webinar will be led by Ford Baker, the founder of Once Accounting, and will include a software demonstration led by Jason Pedigo of EW Tax. Jason uses Once Accounting in his practice and in his demonstration, Jason will show how Once Accounting increases his impact on his firm's workflow and drives him to feel that his next busy season will be his most profitable and productive.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate a software solution that streamlines and enhances standard accounting workflows to be more effective and helpful for practicing CPAs

  • Recognize the usefulness of this software in professional situations as demonstrated by a tax professional

  • Identify ways that Once Accounting's unique "touch it once" approach can help busy seasons become productive and profitable

Ford Baker, CPA, has over 35 years of experience in the public accounting industry, with over 20 of experience running a firm, BaCo Group, PLLC. In that role, Ford always sought to improve the efficiency of his firm through technology and forward-thinking. His passion was built out of a unique backstory; in 2012, he weighed almost 400 pounds, but by 2014 he had changed his life and rode a bicycle from Canada to Mexico down the Pacific Coast Highway. He had a passion and focus on eliminating the clutter in his practice that created the 400-pound version of himself that he did not want to see return. Ultimately, Ford developed an in-house transaction-based workflow using Excel and various other off-the-shelf utilities that gather data and work with data more real-time. This workflow concept can change the industry from a reactive service switching from putting last year’s balances on the previous year’s returns to proactive services, teaching clients the impact of this year’s numbers on their business, its exit value, and next year’s tax bill today.
